Welcome back for our final stretch of kindergarten! Our class has come so far as readers, writers, and mathematicians already. The next eight weeks will be filled with growing these skills and showing what we know in assessments. 

This week we connected with our reading to determine cause and effect. In science, we learned about how animals make or find their homes. We practiced adding within 5. Fairness was the focus in both P2 and social studies, so we are fairness experts.

Please keep practicing sight words!

    Announcements

In math this week, we explored three dimensional shapes with our sense of touch in our feely box,

and built them with marshmallows and toothpicks. We prepared to write informational pieces and

learned all about children in the past and present. Math groups also started this week with groups

working on writing numbers to 20 and beyond, and drawing number stories.

Here are the remaining winter items. If they look familiar to you, please email me and I will send

them home with your child.

We had a blast reading many different stories and applying our reading skills of summarizing, inferring, and comparing and contrasting. Ask your child who stole Grandpa’s teeth and how they know. In math, we quizzed each other on the names of 3D shapes and addition facts. 

 

Winter items are coming home. I will post a picture of any remaining items in next week’s blog.

This week we worked on comparing and contrasting in our non-fiction reading. In math, we collected data with our class collection of crayon pieces. We are expressing our opinions in letter writing. The class problem-solved recess issues in a circle discussion using social intelligence, our P2 trait of the week. Next week we will begin new units in both social studies and science. 

 

Next Friday we will celebrate reading month with flashlights and pajamas!

 

Information on the Bucks for Brown PTO fundraiser came home today. If your child received the wrong envelope by mistake, please send it to school with them on Tuesday and I will be sure to get them the correct envelope.

This week was filled with learning and fun! Our character trait this week was enthusiasm. We celebrated with a mini pep rally, dances, and songs. Today we enthusiastically enjoyed the Brown School Virtual Variety Show. We are so blessed to see the many talents of our Brown School family!

 

March Madness has begun at Brown School! March is reading month and we are enjoying exciting new titles and voting for our favorites in each match up. You can check out the fun here.

 

Report cards are coming home on Wednesday next week.

 I am so proud of the progress of each student!

We started our opinion writing unit this week and the class wrote this letter to share with you.

We love the book Bad Kitty! The kitty does lots of funny things. She was nice, then bad, then nice, and at the end she didn't want to share her food.

We are 100 days smarter in Kindergarten! Thank you for helping your child prepare their project to celebrate. Projects will be coming home on Monday.

I enjoyed meeting with each student for second trimester assessments this week. They are all learning and growing so much!
