     Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. Hooker!

                                       Announcements

In Language Arts this week, we've been practicing sequencing events using words such as "first, next, and last." Ask your child to share a sequence of events such as their bedtime routine using these transition words!

Tuesday, November 17th is our 50th Day! Can you believe we've been in school for 50 days already?! I will have centers for students to participate in focusing on the number 50. You also received a note for snack and a baggie attached. Please count 50 snack pieces out with your child and put them in the bag. Return the bag on Tuesday and your child can snack on these as part of one of the centers!

This Thursday, November 19th, we will be sharing in a Thanksgiving luncheon served in our classroom. If your child would like the Thanksgiving meal, have them select hot lunch on that day either through the meal app or here at school.

When library books are returned, they have to be quarantined for a week before they are checked back into the system. You may receive an overdue notice about a library book that was turned in. This just indicates that you may have turned it in, but it is not checked back into the system yet.

The Scholastic Virtual Book Fair is here from November 12th-November 25th! Families will have the chance to purchase books online to help raise money for the media center. A link to each teacher's book wishlist can be found here.

Your child's week with Mrs. Hooker!

                                       Announcements

In Language Arts this week, we've been practicing Reader's Theater! Students have been enjoying identifying sightwords, finding the patterns in the books, and following a "script" and reading together as a group! The paper books, "About Me" and "With My Family" came home this week with your child! Continue to practice reading these to build fluency.

We have started our spelling tests! These are not words that you need to study at home prior to the test on Fridays. This is just a way for students and I to practice hearing the sounds in a cvc word.

The Scholastic Virtual Book Fair is coming from November 12th-November 25th! Starting next week, families will have the chance to purchase books online to help raise money for the media center. A link to each teacher's book wishlist can be found here.

Next week Novemeber 12th and 13th are half days for parent/teacher conferences. I met with each family in October for conferences so there will be no virtual conferences for kindergarten that week. I will send out a "grow/glow" summary to each family soon reflecting first trimester assessments that correlate with the report card coming home end of November. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Your child's week with Mrs. Hooker!

                                       Announcements

This week in math we explore the attributes of shapes and sorting items by several classifications. In reading, we analyzed characters to help us understand stories. We also learned about being on the group plan at school.

On Monday we will be welcoming a new student, Parker, to our class. This brings our class to 22 students.

Today your student will be bringing home a Seesaw home learning code. Thank you for joining the family app, so that you can enjoy updates from our classroom throughout the week. The home learning code is for Seesaw’s class app which allows students to complete assignments remotely. Have fun completing the social emotional learning assignment to try it out! This app will be utilized if we are remote at anytime this school year.

We are so excited for a Fall celebration in our classroom on Friday, October 30th from 2:10-3:10! A few reminders for that day:

  • Students are welcome to wear costumes all day.  Families should use good judgement regarding costumes knowing that students will be working in them throughout the school day (perhaps they leave the bulkier pieces of the costume at home).

  • Masks, as required daily in the school setting, will still be required for safety reasons. Students will not be able to wear a costume mask instead. As per usual, no gore, weapons or "weapon like" items should come to school.

  • In lieu of a traditional Halloween parade, we will take pictures and share them on our closed PTO FB page and in our blogs.

     Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. Hooker!

                                       Announcements

We are learning all about time and discussing our pasts with our timeline homework. If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete the timeline with your student, please do that within the next week. The students will be sharing them with the class to celebrate the milestones in their lives.

Our class is also beginning to tell and write personal narratives. We are using our fingers to help us remember the parts of our stories; characters, what happened first, what happened next, what happened last, and a conclusion.

Specials are an exciting part of our school days. In kindergarten, we enjoy Physical Education on Mondays, Art on Tuesdays, Music on Wednesdays, Media/Library on Thursdays, and Social Emotional Learning on Fridays.

We are so excited for a Fall celebration in our classroom on Friday, October 30th from 2:10-3:10! The students have been talking about Halloween and fun fall events since the beginning of October!  With that being said, if you are interested in helping organize this party virtually and/or preparing supplies, please fill out this https://forms.gle/y4BeXWDqcnYXQek86 . A few reminders for that day:

  • Students are welcome to wear costumes all day.  Families should use good judgement regarding costumes knowing that students will be working in them throughout the school day (perhaps they leave the bulkier pieces of the costume at home).

Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. Hooker! Announcements It is not too late to send in September homework calendars! This month students get to pick out a fun sticker. Don't forget to get started on the October calendar that came home recently! On the back of the October calendar is the Pizza Hut Book-It Program. If your child would like to earn a free personal pan pizza, color the days on the calendar with at least 10 books read or 20 minutes each day. This week we completed NWEA Map testing to get a baseline for our yearly assessments. I met individually with students to assess letter and number knowledge. We read the story, Harold's Purple Crayon and students loved giving clues for the vocabulary words from the story! Today you will find log-in information in your child’s folder for the many applications we will be using in school this year. Please keep your child’s log in sheet somewhere safe so you can reference it throughout the school year. If you would like to send in a pump hand sanitizer for our classroom it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! __________________________________________________________ Snack and Leaders October 5- Wyatt October 6- Shea* October 7- Athena October 8- Evan October 9- Emerson We have 21 children in our class. *denotes birthday We will snack in the afternoon each day.
